A Japanese small bowl or sake cup in traditional design, named "Mubyo" literally meaning "six bottle gourds" in Japanese.
The shape represents the calyx of a bottle gourd, a Japanese auspicious motif that brings happiness to the table and people.
It is made of red earthenware, so there appear baked nuances around the mouth and the bottom. The exterior bowl is beautifully and exquisitely overglaze painted in Red, Black by hand. The interior bowl is colored 'soft and grayish' white, using the traditional Japanese "kohiki" technique, where the clay is covered with a layer of white powder-clay before transparent glazing. It results in seeable pretty pure colors of the food.
It can be used to serve pickles or appetizers and also to drink sake. It is elegantly footed, so you can feel a sense of specialty.
